Petersons are the original designer of the world's first commercial "swingblade" portable sawmill. While other variations come and go, Peterson's continue to be leaders in innovation and design.
Petersons are unique in that they listen to, and act upon, sawmiller’s responses from the field. Consequently, year after year, Peterson's continue to put out new and improved ways of converting logs to lumber. |

Cutting Fast Accurate Timber
These models are designed for fast production of high quality, extremely accurate timber. If you’ve got a pile of logs all ready to be milled up at one site, then this mill is ideal for you. With the Petrson you can achieve over 85% recovery from good logs
Mill unlimited length Beams. Just by adding an extra set of tracks. One of our Peterson customer in Canadian routinely saws 65’ logs.
You can add extensions to any length without compromising accuracy or speed.
Setting up the WPF is a simple process that usually takes one person about 10 - 25 minutes (two people about 5-10 minutes). The mill can be packed up within about 5-7 minutes at the end of the day. |
|
The Lo/Lo tracks are recommended if you will be frequently moving from log to log. You can upgrade to the Hi/Lo tracks for use beside a stockpile of logs. The Hi/Lo prevents any sawdust building up on a low track and allows easy loading of logs under the high side of the mill. The Hi/Lo set up can be used as Lo/Lo tracks. Set up and breakdown time are the same. |
The Production Frame mills come in 8" or 10" models, and are powered by 24 hp industrial 4-stroke Honda motors. These mills can produce anywhere from 2 - 12 cubic metres or 800 - 5000 board feet per day depending on your logs and setup, and all size models can easily double cut without turning the unit around. Basic packages come with tracks to cut logs of 4.2 m (14') or 6m (20') long and 1.2m (4') diameter, two blades, sharpener, basic safety kit, spares & tools, and a training video. |
 |
We also have a range of log handling tools, Cant Hooks, Log Dogs and other accessories that make milling life a little bit easier. We even have attachments for your 4-stroke Peterson mills that can cut tapered weatherboards and wide slabs

WINNER OF USA AWARD

Peterson
Portable Sawmills stole the show at America's biggest Portable Sawmill
competition;
The Great Portable Sawmill Shootout held at the Forest
Products Equipment Show in Massachusetts on May 4th this year.
Petersons
won the under $10,000USD division with their WPF 8"24hp mill, cutting
510BFT/HR of 1 inch boards that's 1.2 m3/hr with 85% recovery. Petersons were
competing against manual and automated, circular and bandsaws from around the
world.
The Peterson Mill cut more bft/hr than all of these mills priced under
$30,000USD. Petersons were also competing in the shootout with their entry level
mill the ATS - All Terrain Sawmill, which cut 461 BFT/HR and achieved 79%
recovery, placing the ATS mill 3rd fastest and 7th overall of mills under $30,000USD
The Portable Sawmill Shootout is the biggest competition of its kind in
the USA. Portable sawmills from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, go head to head
in a competition, which is judged on production and recovery.
Points are
awarded for bft cut and percentage recovery, points are deducted for tapered boards,
wane and incorrect sizing. Per Chris Browne, "I concentrated on maintaining
high recovery as I knew that was where we could lose the most points against a
bandsaw cutting 1 inch boards. These results prove that we can maintain high
recovery cutting 1 inch boards and we already know we can maintain high recovery
cutting bigger boards, which the bandsaws find harder to do."
At
the West Coast Shootout 2001 where multiple use boards were allowed, Petersons
cut 1402BFT/HR that's 3.3m3/hr cutting 2 inch boards.
The Forest Products
Equipment Show has been an all round success for Peterson Sawmills as they sold
both mills at the show, took another 6 orders and have a further 20 hot prospects
to follow up on. Due to this success Petersons are taking orders to fill a container
load to the USA in June of this year.
