The Softrak Cut + Collect Pro brings a heavier-duty, twin-cut harvesting head to the ST140 carrier, for operators who need more cutting power than the standard direct-cut system.
At its core is the Loglogic TC1700 Twin Cut Harvester, a double-chop forager head with 36 cutting flails and a full-width auger that keeps material flowing evenly to the cutter head, even in windy conditions, for a clean throw into the 12m³ collection bin.
The TC1700 direct-cuts wetland habitats such as reed, grasses and sedges, and handles tougher growth like light heather and brambles, or picks up previously cut material. Its side cutting flails give a clean, even cut without the suction effect of a conventional forage harvester, reducing soil contamination and minimising the pickup of invertebrates - an important consideration in nature conservation work.
Extensive use of high-strength Swedish steel keeps the head lightweight yet strong, with replaceable 3mm Hardox wear plates on the secondary chopping housing and a Hardox first chute section for maximum wear resistance. An onboard grinding set sharpens the full length of the chopping knives to an even edge without needing to dismantle them from the flywheel, and chop length can be adjusted by fitting 4 or 8 knives to the secondary cutting rotor.
Electric chute control is fitted as standard, along with a chute-mounted camera and an under-body reversing camera, both displayed on a monitor in the cab.
French trade magazine Matériel & Paysage featured the Softrak Cut and Collect system clearing an overgrown peat bog in Brittany, restoring habitat on ground no conventional machinery could reach.
IN OPERATION | KERFONTAINE PEAT BOG
Conservation body Bretagne Vivante trialled a Softrak Cut and Collect system to clear invasive scrub, bracken and gorse from the Kerfontaine peat bog, a 23-hectare reserve home to over a thousand animal and plant species. In the demonstration the Softrak mowed several hectares in under an hour, clearing 30m³ of material in three loads. Reserve network coordinator Bernard Iliou noted the time and cost savings over the tractor-mounted mowers and brushcutters previously used on the site's hard-to-reach ground.
