Prestigious Life-Saving 'Tooltrak' Still Going Strong
Burnham on Sea RNLI lifeboat station has returned its custom Softrak Search and Rescue tractor to Loglogic's Devon manufacturing facility for complete scheduled refurbishment after ten years of operational service.
Funded by a bequest from late Berrow resident Kathleen Cartwright, the specialized vehicle named Kay's Cart has supported hundreds of emergency responses since its deployment in 2005. The modified Softrak functions as a launch and recovery unit along the Burnham on Sea coastline, where soft mud flats and extreme tidal conditions prevent standard equipment from operating safely.
Loglogic Sales Manager Graham Mitchell welcomed the vehicle back to the Cullompton workshop for overhaul procedures.
"Kay's Cart performs a vital role for coastal emergency services," Mitchell stated. "Refurbishing the vehicle back to original factory specifications ensures it remains fully dependable for future life saving missions."
The return process forms part of a recurring maintenance schedule required to counteract heavy saltwater exposure and rigorous beach launch operations, ensuring long term reliability for the Somerset lifeboat team.
